BBC Sport reports that the balance of power among London clubs in the Women’s Super League may be shifting ahead of the new season. Arsenal finished above Chelsea in the league for the first time in seven years last season, while also eliminating Chelsea from the Women’s Champions League quarter-finals, prompting questions over whether the Gunners have closed the gap on their rivals.

Arsenal have strengthened over the summer with several notable additions, including England midfielder Georgia Stanway, Spain defender Ona Batlle and Switzerland captain Geraldine Reuteler, after losing long-serving figures such as Beth Mead and Katie McCabe. Manager Renee Slegers said the club is targeting the WSL title and described her squad as hungry and well equipped for the challenge. Arsenal begin their league campaign away to Brighton on Sunday.

Chelsea, by contrast, are entering what Sonia Bompastor called a transitional phase, with the team rebuilding after changes to the squad. Chelsea have added players including Katie McCabe and Melvine Malard, but can no longer rely on key figures from their dominant period such as Sam Kerr and Millie Bright. They start against Aston Villa on Saturday and remain the bookmakers’ favourites, although Bompastor said she is focused on the season rather than predictive models.
