What the report says

Israeli air strikes killed at least 10 Palestinians in Gaza on Wednesday in two separate attacks, according to Al Jazeera’s report from the enclave and medical sources cited in it. One strike hit the municipal police headquarters in central Gaza City, while another struck the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, amid ongoing Israeli bombardment across the territory.

Hospital officials at al-Shifa said they received nine bodies from the Gaza City attack and treated 15 wounded people. Al Jazeera reported that the strike landed in a busy area near a park crowded with civilians, including children. Among those killed were newly appointed Gaza City police chief, the head of a women’s police unit, and other officers, the report said. Medics said the Nuseirat strike killed one more person.

The Israeli military said its air force had targeted Hamas commanders in Nuseirat and later in Gaza City’s Tuffah area, but the article noted that it did not provide evidence for those claims. Hamas rejected Israel’s explanation and accused it of using unproven allegations to justify attacks on civilian police and unarmed people.

The strikes came a day after another deadly Israeli attack on a crowded cafe in Gaza City’s port area, which has become a displacement site, and just after a visit to the region by US envoy Jared Kushner aimed at advancing a deal to end the war. The report said those talks remained deadlocked after Israel rejected a withdrawal-for-disarmament proposal.
