Halo: Campaign Evolved has officially restarted the console war - Polygon.com

What the report says
Polygon reports that Halo: Campaign Evolved, the remake of Bungie’s 2001 shooter Halo: Combat Evolved, has prompted a new round of platform debate after some players claimed the assault rifle behaves differently on PlayStation 5 than on Xbox and PC. The game, developed by Halo Studios and released July 28 for PS5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X, marks the first time a Halo title has launched officially on PlayStation alongside Microsoft platforms.
According to Polygon, the discussion centers on the remake’s default MA5C assault rifle, which uses a 32-round magazine rather than the original game’s 60-round MA5B. A Reddit video highlighted by the outlet compared players firing at walls from similar positions, with the PS5 example appearing to show more reticle drift and a wider bullet spread than footage from Xbox or PC. Some players also noted that the PS5 version may fire a little faster, while others speculated about frame rate, technical settings or the effect of the optional Magnified skull modifier, which can restore the classic MA5B.
The debate matters because Halo: Campaign Evolved is also described by Polygon as the first Halo release without competitive multiplayer. Some players have connected the alleged weapon-behavior differences to that omission, though Polygon says there is no confirmed explanation. Halo Studios had not responded to the outlet’s request for comment at the time of publication. Without an official statement, the claims remain community observations rather than a verified platform imbalance.
