What the report says

Residents of Kazo Central Zone 1 in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, are calling for stronger security after a midnight raid in which suspected armed robbers allegedly posed as police officers, assaulted people in their homes and stole cash, phones and other belongings. The incident, reported by Nile Post, is said to have happened in the early hours of Sunday and left several residents injured.

One victim, Susan Baluku, said the attackers appeared in clothing resembling police uniforms before beating her and her husband while demanding valuables. She said the suspects then forced her to call out to their landlord, Ssalongo Godfrey Ssebuufu, who was also attacked. Ssebuufu said he was hit with a hammer while the intruders searched his house. Residents said the suspects tried to flee on a motorcycle but abandoned it after an alarm was raised.

According to the report, a pistol and a hammer were recovered after the attackers dropped them during the escape. Later, police searched a room rented by two young men who had reported injuries from the incident, and officers reportedly found machetes, knives and other suspected housebreaking tools. It was not immediately clear whether those items were linked to the robbery. The two men were taken to Kawempe Police Station to assist with investigations.

Local leaders condemned the attack and urged tighter coordination between landlords, tenants and community leaders to help identify residents and improve neighbourhood security. Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachel Kawala confirmed that investigations had begun. More broadly, the case reflects wider concerns about violent home invasions and impersonation of security personnel in parts of the greater Kampala area.
