Guardiola's return, Man City's defiance - and a game of glorious chaos

What the report says
Manchester City returned to the Etihad Stadium amid a show of solidarity with Pep Guardiola and the club’s leadership, as supporters and the pre-match atmosphere reflected an “us against the world” mood. BBC Sport’s Phil McNulty reported that Guardiola attended the match in a low-key role, sitting near chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and chief executive Ferran Soriano, after City were found guilty by an independent commission of breaching Premier League financial rules and while the club prepares for appeal.
On the pitch, however, Paris St-Germain produced the decisive performance in a Champions League meeting that ended 4-2 in their favour. PSG led 3-0 at half-time through goals from Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha, exposing City in a difficult opening period. The report said City were much improved after the break, with Pep Guardiola and interim boss Enzo Maresca reacting to a more aggressive second-half display that briefly raised hopes of a comeback.
Erling Haaland scored for City, and the home side created enough chances to make the final scoreline more competitive, but PSG’s quality proved too much. The result followed City’s win at Liverpool at the weekend and underlined the contrast between their domestic response and European struggle. BBC Sport framed the contest as both a football spectacle and a wider moment of defiance for City, against the backdrop of ongoing uncertainty over their financial case.
