What the report says

Family members, friends and residents in Auyo Village, Iyolwa Sub-county in Tororo District are mourning former SC Villa captain David Owori after news of his killing in Kampala. According to Nile Post, the 28-year-old footballer’s relatives are awaiting his body for burial and have called for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The report says the atmosphere at Owori’s ancestral home has been heavy with grief, with mourners gathering to comfort the family and help prepare for burial. Relatives and neighbours described him as humble, disciplined and supportive, and said he had become the main provider for his family after his father died in 2023. He is also remembered as the firstborn in a family of seven and as someone who helped support his widowed mother and younger siblings.

Community members told the paper that Owori often returned home and contributed to local football by donating balls and jerseys to village teams. His relatives urged police to pursue the case thoroughly, including using CCTV footage from the area where he was reportedly attacked. The killing has drawn concern beyond the village because Owori was a known figure in Ugandan football.

The family said his body is expected home on Friday ahead of burial on Saturday. He leaves behind a wife and one child.
