Green backs 'proven' Parker for Hammers job

What the report says
Former West Ham United goalkeeper Rob Green has said Scott Parker would be a strong candidate to become the club’s next manager, pointing to Parker’s record of winning promotion from the Championship. The comments were made to BBC Radio London and were reported by BBC Sport Football. Parker, 46, is understood to be in line to replace Nuno Espirito Santo, who was dismissed on Tuesday after West Ham’s poor start to the season.
Green, who played alongside Parker at West Ham, said Parker has already shown he can take teams up from the second tier, having done so with Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley. He argued that while some critics question whether Parker’s approach is adventurous enough, his teams are organised and know what is needed to secure promotion. Green also suggested West Ham’s squad still has enough quality to earn promotion this season.
West Ham are currently eighth in the Championship, six points behind leaders Middlesbrough, after back-to-back home defeats against Southampton and West Bromwich Albion. The club are aiming to return to the Premier League after relegation last season, and the managerial change would be their fourth permanent appointment since David Moyes left in May 2024. Another former West Ham player, John Moncur, also backed Parker, saying the club need a manager who can balance attractive football with results.
