Hibernian have dismissed head coach David Gray after just six league matches of the Scottish Premiership season, bringing an end to his long association with Easter Road. BBC Sport Football reported that the decision followed Tuesday’s 1-0 loss away to bottom club Kilmarnock, which left Hibs ninth on six points and extended a run of six straight home defeats dating back to last season.

The club said the change was made because of a recent drop in results and performances. Assistants Liam Craig and Craig Samson are also leaving, while John Potter has been put in temporary charge for Saturday’s home match against Aberdeen. Gray, a former Hibs captain, is closely linked with the club after famously scoring the winner in the 2016 Scottish Cup final against Rangers.

According to BBC Sport Football, Gray became head coach in May 2024 after previous interim spells and the departure of Nick Montgomery. His time in charge included a difficult start before a strong recovery that helped Hibs finish third, followed by fifth place last season. He oversaw 107 games in total, with 43 wins, 35 defeats and 29 draws. The move underlines the pressure on clubs in the early part of the season when results and home form begin to shape long-term expectations.
