What the report says

The Hill reported that newly surfaced documentary footage shows the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) strongly supporting the U.S.-Israeli war in Iran and likening President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill. The footage was recorded by filmmaker Alex Holder, who, according to The Hill, spent hundreds of hours with Graham beginning in 2023.

In clips obtained by The Wall Street Journal, Graham was shown reacting with approval to the first wave of U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran and describing a phone call with Trump that morning. Graham, long known as a hawkish voice on Iran, praised Trump’s wartime conduct and said Trump and Netanyahu were the leaders suited to confront what he called evil. The Hill noted Graham died earlier this month after an aortic dissection.

The article also cited footage obtained by CNN in which Graham told Jake Sullivan, former President Biden’s national security adviser, on March 4 that he expected Iran’s government to begin losing control of some cities within weeks. The Hill reported that this forecast did not come to pass.

Holder told CNN’s “State of the Union” that the footage illustrates Graham’s importance in pressing Trump toward war alongside Netanyahu. The report matters because it offers a behind-the-scenes view of how a senior Republican senator advocated for military escalation against Iran and framed the conflict in historic terms.
