Govt Pays Tribute to Kabaka Mutebi at 33rd Coronation Anniversary in Los Angeles

What the report says
Uganda’s government joined Buganda community members in California for celebrations marking Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s 33rd coronation anniversary, according to Nile Post. The event took place at Nob Hill Banquet Center in Los Angeles and brought together Buganda Kingdom dignitaries, cultural leaders, community groups, elders and Ugandans in the diaspora.
The report said Abbey Walusimbi, senior presidential adviser on diaspora affairs, represented the Government of Uganda. He used the occasion to commend the Kabaka for helping foster unity among Ugandans and for strengthening links within Buganda at home and abroad. Walusimbi also called on diaspora communities to prioritize peace, mutual respect, cooperation and the protection of cultural identity.
Also present were Owek. Fred Makubuya, identified as the Kabaka’s representative in California and Hawaii, and Owek. Hudson Joloba, chairperson of the organising committee and deputy representative of the Kabaka. The City of Los Angeles was represented by Tylor Redick from the mayor’s office, and the gathering included members of groups such as Basoga Twegaite, Banyakole Kweterana, Buganda Eyenkya and the Kabaka Foundation.
The celebration highlighted how Ugandan diaspora communities are using cultural events to maintain ties and encourage collective action. More broadly, the report reflects the continuing influence of Buganda’s monarch among Ugandans outside the country, especially in efforts to preserve heritage and promote cohesion.
