Government Rolls Out NUSAF IV in Busoga to Tackle Poverty

What the report says
The Ugandan government has launched the fourth phase of the Northern Uganda Social Action Fund, or NUSAF IV, in the Busoga sub-region, according to Nile Post. The rollout is intended to help vulnerable households and reduce poverty through enterprise grants, agricultural and fisheries support, small business backing and labour-intensive public works.
The launch took place in Jinja, where Minister for the Presidency Milly Babalanda said the programme gives Busoga communities a chance to improve incomes through productive activities. She said it would complement other poverty-alleviation efforts by helping households start or expand income-generating ventures. The initiative is being presented as part of a wider government push to promote inclusive development and household resilience.
NUSAF was originally created to support communities affected by conflict and insurgency in Northern Uganda. Project coordinator Dr Robert Lim Lim said Busoga was considered because of the region’s exposure to the Lakwena insurgency and its lasting social and economic effects. In broader background, the programme has since been expanded beyond its original northern focus to several sub-regions with similar development challenges.
Local leaders welcomed the rollout, saying it could bring practical support to communities still facing poverty. Busoga Parliamentary Caucus chair Stephen Kisa again urged a dedicated ministry for Busoga affairs, while district leaders called for unity and greater use of local water resources for fish farming and other income-generating projects.
