What the report says

Uganda’s Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development is in the final stages of introducing the Labour Administration Management Information System, or LAMIS, a digital platform meant to improve labour administration and make it easier to track employment trends, jobs created and lost, inspections and workforce productivity. According to Nile Post, the ministry is working with Enabel on the rollout and has begun training a core group of Labour Officers in Kampala who will later pass the system on to users across the country.

The training, held as a five-day workshop at Fairway Hotel, is part of a wider effort to modernise how labour information is collected, recorded and reported from district and local levels up to the ministry. Officials say the system should provide more timely and consistent data for decisions on employment, industrialisation and social protection. The article links the initiative to Uganda’s Fourth National Development Plan and broader government plans to strengthen digital public services.

Assistant Commissioner for Industrial Relations Apollo Onzoma said the platform is intended to improve the quality of administrative data and harmonise reporting processes. He also called on trainees to help support the rollout and share the skills with other officers. Enabel’s project manager, Lucie Carlier, described the work as part of a longer effort that began in 2024 to modernise labour services. The system was developed by Centric Solutions and is expected to move forward after issues raised during training are addressed.
