Gov’t releases official burial programme for Gen. Moses Ali

The Independent Uganda, citing URN, reports that the government has issued the official funeral programme for Gen. Moses Ali, the former Second Deputy Prime Minister and Adjumani West MP. According to a Monday statement by Minister for the Presidency Milly Babirye Babalanda, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni directed that Ali receive an official burial in recognition of his service in Uganda’s military, politics, government and public life.

Babalanda, who heads the National Organising Committee for the funeral, said the arrangement follows the President’s executive authority under Article 99 of the Constitution. The committee includes representatives from the Office of the President, Parliament, the Uganda Police Force and Ali’s family. The report says Ali died on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala, with the government later notifying the public of his death.

The programme begins with private prayers at Ali’s home in Naguru on Monday evening. Parliament is scheduled to hold a special sitting on Tuesday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., where Museveni is expected to attend as chief mourner. After that, the body is to be flown to Adjumani District for an official vigil at his ancestral home in Atabu Parish, Pakele Division.

The burial events are expected to end on Thursday, July 23, with a regional gathering at Paridi Stadium in Adjumani for leaders and residents from West Nile and Madi, followed by funeral prayers and burial at the ancestral home. The Independent notes that Ali’s public career stretched over more than five decades and included several ministerial roles.
