Gov’t Chief Whip Aceng Applauds LRRH’s New Face, Commits to More Development

What the report says
Dokolo Post reports that Government Chief Whip and Lira City Woman MP Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero inspected recently completed works at Lira Regional Referral Hospital on Wednesday, ahead of their planned commissioning on Thursday. The visit focused on infrastructure intended to improve patient flow, hospital access and service delivery at the regional facility.
According to the report, Aceng was received by Acting Principal Hospital Administrator Monica Akello Oyet, Senior Consultant Paediatrician Dr. William Oyang, hospital staff and caregivers. The areas toured included the 220-metre Hospital Lane, previously known as Police Road, as well as an Infectious Isolation Unit, a covered canopy, the Eye Unit and an expanded Outpatient Department in the hospital’s private wing.
Aceng praised the hospital board, management and staff for the changes, saying the works had improved the facility’s appearance and made the environment more orderly for patients and health workers. Drawing on her earlier role as the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, she said the longer-term ambition is to develop Lira Regional Referral Hospital into a more specialised referral centre serving the wider region. She also pledged to use her position as Chief Whip to advocate for additional funding and development support for the hospital and other priorities.
Oyet said the visit encouraged staff as they prepared for the formal commissioning. She also noted Aceng’s approval of the hospital’s cleanliness, which the administrator linked to sanitation practices established during Aceng’s earlier leadership at the hospital. The development matters because regional referral hospitals are key public health hubs for specialised care beyond district-level services.
