Google Maps rolling out Immersive Navigation, speedometer in Android Auto to more users - 9to5Google

9to5Google reports that Google Maps is expanding availability of two driving-related features: Immersive Navigation and a live speedometer in Android Auto. The site said on July 25, 2026, that both tools are appearing for more users, including some who are not enrolled in beta versions of Google Maps or Android Auto, suggesting the changes are being enabled from Google’s servers rather than through a conventional app update alone.

According to the report, Immersive Navigation was introduced earlier in 2026 as a major Google Maps update meant to provide more precise guidance and richer map detail during trips. Its release had been gradual; 9to5Google said a reader poll earlier in July found that only slightly more than 10% of respondents had received it at that point. The publication now says it has seen the refreshed navigation experience on the stable Google Maps app, with additional public sightings also emerging.

The rollout still does not appear universal. 9to5Google noted that access may vary by factors such as region and, based on some reports, device type. On Android, one visible sign of the broader interface change is the Gemini icon appearing where Assistant had previously been shown in the upper-right corner.

The Android Auto speedometer feature is separate from speed-limit display and shows a vehicle’s current speed within Maps. 9to5Google said this long-requested addition began surfacing earlier in July and is now showing up more widely on non-beta devices. The report said it remains unclear whether the Immersive Navigation and speedometer rollouts are linked.
