What the report says

The Independent Uganda reports that the Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) is using its 50th anniversary to push for a stronger, more professional and financially sustainable association. The piece, written by PRAU President Irene Nakasiita, says the jubilee is meant to recognise the group’s founders and past leaders while setting priorities for the next 50 years of the profession.

A central theme is the proposed Public Relations and Communications Practitioners Bill, which PRAU says would help professionalise and regulate public relations work in Uganda by strengthening ethical standards, accountability and conduct. Nakasiita also argues that the rapid shift to digital tools, including artificial intelligence, makes professional judgment and integrity even more important.

The article highlights internal reforms at PRAU, including new office space, full-time staff, a membership database and more digital services for members. It also notes efforts to broaden income beyond subscriptions through continuing professional development programmes, events and savings initiatives. PRAU says it wants greater transparency, with audited accounts and approved budgets presented to members.

The anniversary programme includes a four-day Golden Jubilee Summit planned for 20–23 October 2026 at the Source of the Nile Hotel in Jinja City, ending with the 10th PRAU Excellence Awards. PRAU says it is also strengthening links with universities and mentorship programmes to prepare younger communicators for the field.
