God of War Laufey launches February 16, 2027 - Gematsu

What the report says
Gematsu reports that God of War Laufey is scheduled to release for PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027. The announcement names Sony Interactive Entertainment as publisher and Santa Monica Studio as developer, positioning the title as a new entry in the long-running God of War series aimed at both newcomers and existing fans.
According to the overview provided by Sony Interactive Entertainment and relayed by Gematsu, the game centers on Laufey, also known as Faye, the warrior wife of Kratos and mother of Atreus. The premise begins after her death, when she wakes in an unfamiliar realm and learns that arrangements she made to protect Kratos and Atreus may be threatened. The setting is described as the Everywhen, an afterlife-like domain where gods from multiple mythologies compete for power amid dangerous magic.
The publisher’s description emphasizes Faye’s combat style as fast, controlled and relentless, suggesting a shift in playable perspective from the Kratos- and Atreus-focused entries that recently defined the franchise. Gematsu also notes that a new video, identified as a release date trailer, accompanied the announcement.
Gematsu further reports, citing IGN, that Santa Monica Studio head of creative Cory Barlog said during a God of War Laufey panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 that the next Kratos-led God of War game is planned to arrive after Laufey and will connect directly to its story. If carried through, that would make Laufey an important narrative bridge for the series as well as a standalone expansion of Faye’s role.
