Ghana: Police Kill Robbery Suspect, Arrest 8 in Tema Crackdown

AllAfrica, carrying a Ghanaian Times report from Accra dated July 24, 2026, says the Tema Regional Police Command killed a suspected armed robber during an exchange of gunfire at Zenu Obaatan and reported multiple arrests linked to robbery and murder investigations in the Tema area. Tema Regional Police Commander DCOP Eric Asamoah Asiedu briefed journalists in Tema on Thursday, saying police acted on intelligence about a planned robbery received by the Zenu-Atadeka Police Command on July 14.

According to the report, surveillance on July 15 and 16 led officers to four armed suspects early on July 16. DCOP Asiedu said the suspects fired at police and officers responded in self-defence. One suspect later died at a hospital, a police officer was treated for minor injuries, and three other suspects fled with gunshot wounds. Police said exhibits were secured, the deceased’s body was sent to the Police Hospital mortuary for autopsy, and nearby health facilities were asked to report gunshot-wound patients.

The commander also gave updates on other cases. In the robbery of Mummy’s Recipe Warehouse at Tema Community Nine, where 2,826 bags of 5kg Aaba rice and 113 cartons of sardines were reportedly stolen, police arrested six men near the Tema Industrial Area while 717 suspected stolen rice bags were being loaded onto a truck. The suspects were remanded by a court.

In another case, police said they recovered 600 of 751 stolen bags of organic fertiliser valued at GH¢431,825 after arresting 20-year-old Jacob Botwe, who was also remanded. The report further said Gideon Tetteh Addico and Kwabla Afetorgbor were arrested and granted court bail in connection with the May 18 killing of Korletey Adjawutor near Agortor, while police continue to seek three other suspects.
