Ghana: Police Arrest 2, Seize 692 Parcels of Suspected Indian Hemp At Dawhenya

What the report says
The Tema Regional Police Command in Ghana says it arrested two people and seized 692 parcels of suspected Indian hemp during a snap-check operation at Dawhenya in the Prampram Division. The case was reported by Ghanaian Times and distributed by AllAfrica. Police said the intercepted vehicle was heading toward Accra and was stopped during an operation carried out shortly after midnight on September 8, 2026.
According to the report, the suspects were identified as Godwin Asigeh and Freeman Amedoku. Officers searched the Ford Transit vehicle, with registration number GT 6140-22, and allegedly found the parcels of suspected cannabis wrapped in yellow polythene bags. The police statement said Asigeh was driving, while Amedoku was assisting him.
The suspects, the vehicle and the seized substance were taken to the Devtraco Police Station. The suspected drug was retained as evidence and the vehicle was impounded, while the two men remained in custody as investigations continued. The police command said it commended the officers involved and intended to step up efforts against narcotics trafficking and distribution in the region. In general, such seizures are part of broader policing efforts in Ghana to disrupt illicit drug movement, though the article itself focuses on this specific arrest and seizure.
