Ghana: Cabinet Approves Establishment of Ghana Space Agency - Minister

What the report says
Ghana’s government is moving to replace the Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute with a new Ghana Space Agency, according to a report distributed by AllAfrica from the Ghanaian Times. The proposed body is intended to give the country a more formal structure for managing space-related work and to help Ghana take part in the growing global space economy.
The article says the agency would be responsible for coordinating national space activities, supporting research and innovation, encouraging partnerships with the private sector, and deepening international cooperation. It would also be tasked with helping build space infrastructure and related technologies. The development is presented as part of a broader effort to shift Ghana’s space agenda from planning into implementation.
Environment, Science and Technology Minister Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings said at a press conference in Accra that the initiative is included in her First 100 Days Public Engagement Agenda. She added that Cabinet had approved the plan and that work was already under way to draft legislation establishing the agency.
If completed, the change would give Ghana a clearer legal, institutional and operational framework for space policy. More broadly, it reflects a trend in which countries seek dedicated agencies to coordinate science, technology and commercial opportunities in the space sector.
