Georgia officials hunt for suspect in shooting that killed two and injured 35

What the report says
Georgia authorities are searching for a suspect after a shooting in the rural city of Vienna left two people dead and 35 others injured, according to BBC World News. The violence broke out early Sunday during a block party tied to a Dooly High School homecoming celebration, which officials said was not school-sponsored. About 1,000 people were at the gathering when more than 50 shots were fired, turning the event into a chaotic scene.
Officials said two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while 25 others were taken to several nearby hospitals, some in critical condition. The victims ranged in age from 14 to 51. Dooly County Coroner Brett Walls said the two people killed were men aged 20 and 23. No arrests had been announced, and investigators had not publicly identified a motive.
The Dooly County Sheriff’s Office had already positioned deputies near the crowd before the shooting, and officers later moved through the area as people fled. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said it was joining the case at the request of local authorities and described the investigation as active and ongoing. The incident adds to continuing concern over gun violence at large public gatherings in the United States.
