Gen. Muhoozi, South Korea Defence Attaché Discuss Military Cooperation

Watchdog Uganda reported that Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, held talks with Col. Kim Seha, South Korea’s defence attaché to Uganda, at the Special Forces Command headquarters. Col. Kim was accompanied by his secretary, Ms Choi Yun-Mi, and the meeting was also attended by the UPDF Chief of Joint Staff, Lt Gen Jack Bakasumba.

According to the report, Gen. Muhoozi welcomed the Korean delegation and pointed to the long-running relationship between Uganda and South Korea. He praised South Korea’s armed forces for their professionalism and technological capacity, and said cooperation between the two countries had developed into practical engagement rather than remaining only at the diplomatic level.

The discussions included Uganda’s consideration of opening a permanent mission in Seoul, which the CDF said would support deeper bilateral relations and defence modernisation. Watchdog Uganda also reported that healthcare and medical training featured prominently, with South Korea’s medical technology, hospital systems, surgical expertise, biomedical research and battlefield emergency medicine cited as areas relevant to future cooperation.

Col. Kim reportedly welcomed Uganda’s plans for a Seoul mission and pledged to help coordinate medical-related training opportunities for UPDF officers. The meeting ended with both sides expressing interest in widening cooperation across defence, technology and areas linked to the welfare of military personnel and national development. The reported engagement matters because it signals a possible broadening of Uganda-South Korea security ties beyond conventional military cooperation into institutional capacity-building and medical support for the armed forces.
