Gen Muhoozi Gives Cranes Shs30m Reward After Hoima Victory

Uganda’s national football team, the Cranes, received a Shs30 million cash reward from Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba after their 1-0 win over Libya in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, according to Nile Post. The money was channelled through the Patriotic League of Uganda, which Muhoozi chairs, and was delivered at Hoima City Stadium after the match.

The report says FUFA confirmed the handover, with Hon Daudi Kabanda, head of the chairman’s office, presenting the reward to Cranes captain Denis Onyango. The gesture followed Uganda’s second Group H qualifier, in which the team collected three points after beginning the campaign with a 1-1 draw against Tunisia in Tunis.

The decisive goal came from debutant Arnold Vula, who scored from Allan Okello’s free-kick just before halftime. Nile Post reported that Uganda controlled much of the first half, while Onyango made key saves to keep Libya out. The visitors pressed after the break, but Uganda held on for victory.

The result gave Uganda four points from two matches and lifted them to the top of Group H. It also marked the first competitive international football match at the newly built Hoima City Stadium, making the win significant both for the qualifying campaign and the new venue.
