What the report says
Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, met in Kampala with Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), according to Watchdog Uganda. The discussion took place while Dr. Workneh was in the city for the African Defence Chiefs Conference on Military Operations Other Than War.
The publisher reported that the IGAD delegation briefed Gen. Kainerugaba on the organization’s work, and the two sides talked about issues of shared concern, including regional security. The meeting also included other officials: Dr. Workneh was accompanied by Ms. Bigirwa Joselyn and Ms. Hajara Nalwada, while the Ugandan side included UPDF Chief of Joint Staff Lt. Gen. Jack Bakasumba and Maj. Gen. Wycliffe Keita from the Joint Staff Training and Doctrine.
Watchdog Uganda said the encounter was one of several bilateral meetings Gen. Kainerugaba held alongside the conference, which opened on 5 October and runs until 8 October at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala. The event brings together defence and military operations experts from more than 18 countries, as well as African Union bodies and commanders linked to UN and AU peace support missions. In general, such gatherings are meant to strengthen cooperation on evolving security threats in the region, though the article did not provide further decisions or outcomes from this specific meeting.
