Gen. Muhoozi Contributes Shs100m Towards Tooro King’s Coronation

FORT PORTAL, Uganda — Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has contributed Shs100 million toward the coronation of the new Omukama of Tooro, according to Watchdog Uganda. The outlet reported that Muhoozi said the money was delivered on his behalf by his military assistant, Col. Muwumba, to the Omusuuga of Tooro and that he described it as a modest contribution to the ceremony.

The report said Col. Muwumba was accompanied by Omutume and Kazo County MP Daudi Kabanda during the handover. The contribution was shared publicly by Muhoozi in a post on X, placing the announcement in the context of preparations for the royal event in Fort Portal.

Watchdog Uganda said the donation comes ahead of the enthronement of Prince Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, who is scheduled to be installed as Tooro’s new king at Karuziika Palace. The coronation follows the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, and the ceremony is expected to draw royal family members, cultural leaders, government officials and other invited guests.

The donation is part of wider support for the preparations around a significant cultural transition in western Uganda. Such ceremonies often carry political and symbolic importance, reflecting the role of traditional institutions in Uganda’s public life.
