Gen. Moses Ali finally laid to rest in Adjumani

The Independent Uganda, citing URN, reported that retired Gen. Moses Ali was buried on July 23 in Abiricaku Village, Adjumani District. The former Adjumani West MP was laid to rest at 5:25 p.m., four days after his death the previous Saturday, according to the report. The funeral drew thousands of mourners, including government officials, West Nile leaders, religious and cultural figures, family members and residents.

The report said mourners paid tribute to Ali’s long public career, highlighting his work in security, development and agriculture. Vice President Jessica Alupo described him as a mentor and an example to others in public service. Earlier in the day, a janaza prayer was held at his home, followed by a special sitting of the Adjumani District Council where local leaders also honoured him.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa urged leaders to learn from Ali’s humility despite the senior offices he held. State Minister for Veteran Affairs Oleru Huda Abason, who also represents Aringa East, said Ali’s contribution extended beyond formal politics into community support. A condolence message from Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba praised Ali’s professionalism and commitment.

After the burial, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces accorded Ali a gun salute at the graveside. The Independent noted that many mourners remembered him as a peacebuilder, particularly for his role linked to the Uganda National Rescue Front’s merger with the government, a chapter often cited in discussions of stability in the West Nile region.
