Gen Moses Ali's Body Arrives in Adjumani for Final Farewell

Nile Post reported that the body of Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, the former Second Deputy Prime Minister and Adjumani West Member of Parliament, was flown to Adjumani District on Tuesday afternoon for final funeral rites. According to the report, the casket reached Openzinzi Airfield at 3:53pm, where relatives, friends, local leaders, government officials, security personnel and large numbers of mourners had gathered to receive it.

The publisher said a military funeral convoy had arrived earlier at the airfield to prepare for the ceremony, including a flag-draped hearse and a Military Police escort. After the reception, the body was taken at about 4:12pm to Gen. Ali’s home in Abiricaku Village, Adjumani Town Council, where mourners were expected to hold an overnight vigil. Funeral prayers were scheduled for Wednesday at Paridi Stadium, followed by burial at Taqwa Mosque Cemetery in Abiricaku Village.

Several local officials and mourners used the reception to reflect on Ali’s public life. Nile Post cited North West Nile Regional Police Commander SSP Joseph Mwesigwa as describing him as a patriot and peacemaker. Former Adjumani District LC5 chairperson Nixon Owole and Adjumani Resident District Commissioner Swaib Toko also praised his leadership, mentorship and lobbying for development projects in West Nile.

Ali was a long-serving military and political figure in Uganda, with a career spanning several decades. His death is significant in Adjumani and the wider West Nile sub-region, where the report says many people associate him with political leadership, peace efforts and development advocacy.
