Gemini task automation expands to 40+ apps, Samsung shows off two more Android XR glasses - 9to5Google

9to5Google reports that Google used Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event to announce several Gemini and Android updates tied to Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8. The announcements include a broader Android device-transfer feature and expanded Gemini automation across apps, with the new foldables among the first devices highlighted.

According to the report, Android 17 includes an upgraded wireless migration experience for people switching from iPhone, adding support for transferring a Google Account, passwords, Wi-Fi credentials and eSIM data. Those join previously supported categories such as photos, videos, contacts, messages and calendar items. 9to5Google says the feature is also rolling out to Pixel devices and is expected to come to more Android hardware later.

The article says Gemini task automation, which began in beta with support for six rideshare and delivery apps on the Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26 series, now works with more than 40 apps across shopping, restaurant reservations, travel booking and event tickets, including Etsy and Expedia. On the Galaxy Z Flip 8, users can access the assistance from the Flex Window by long-pressing the power button. Google also said the Gemini app can use advanced reasoning to interpret on-screen content and complex images as prompts, while the renamed Gemini Notebook will be pre-installed on Samsung’s new foldables.

9to5Google also notes that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8 and Flip 8 include six months of Google AI Pro. For wearables, Gemini on the Galaxy Watch 9 can be activated by raising the wrist, similar to Pixel Watch 4. Samsung and Google also previewed additional Android XR glasses frame designs from Gentle Monster and Warby Parker ahead of a planned fall launch.
