What the report says

Chrome Unboxed reported that Google is adding new Gemini-powered visual creation tools directly inside Google Docs, expanding the AI assistant’s role across Google Workspace. Citing a Google Workspace Updates post, the outlet said users can now create, edit and refine custom images, diagrams and infographics within a document rather than switching to outside design software or using generic stock visuals.

According to the report, the feature uses the text already in a Doc to produce context-aware visuals based on natural-language prompts. Users can start from the bottom action bar or the Gemini side panel, asking for items such as an infographic summarizing the document, a diagram explaining a proposal, or multiple section-specific graphics across a longer file. The same prompt-based workflow can also revise generated visuals, including changing an aspect ratio or adjusting style.

Chrome Unboxed said the feature is available on the web version of Google Docs and requires Workspace smart features to be turned on. The rollout was described as beginning July 28, 2026, for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains, with full visibility expected within 15 days. Eligible users include Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Education Plus, Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, and those with the Google AI Pro for Education add-on.

The update matters because it brings generative design closer to everyday document drafting, potentially reducing the need for separate graphics tools for proposals, summaries and educational or business materials. As reported, access remains limited to specified Workspace and AI subscription tiers.
