Geekbench 7 Launches With Redesigned Multi-Core and GPU Benchmarks - MacRumors

MacRumors reported that Primate Labs launched Geekbench 7 on Thursday, July 23, 2026, introducing the latest version of its widely used CPU and GPU benchmarking software. The update centers on redesigned tests intended to better reflect current computing workloads, including a multi-core benchmark that only uses multi-threading when the real-world task being modeled would do so.

According to the report, Primate Labs says this approach should make multi-core scores more representative of actual device performance. The GPU benchmark has also been reworked around machine learning and content creation, with tests covering tasks such as face tracking, real-time video filter effects, ML image upscaling, video-call background blur, RAW processing, LUT-based color grading, path tracing and fluid simulation. CUDA support has returned alongside OpenCL, Vulkan and Metal.

MacRumors said Geekbench 7 also uses larger and more varied datasets across existing workloads, including file compression, PDF viewing, developer tasks and image processing. New media-focused tests cover audio and video encoding, decoding and processing, while workloads involving Whisper speech recognition, AV1 and Opus are designed to mirror uses such as video conferencing, screen sharing and content playback. A game physics test uses the Jolt Physics engine, and photo-related benchmarks now include broader editing tasks and formats such as JPEG XL and DNG.

The release matters because benchmark scores are frequently used to compare performance across phones, tablets and computers, including Apple devices. MacRumors reported that Geekbench 7 is available for iOS, macOS and other platforms, remains free for personal use, and has a Pro version temporarily discounted from its regular $99 price through August 6.
