Geekbench 7 is out with overhauled performance tests for CPU and GPU workloads - 9to5Mac

What the report says

9to5Mac reported that Primate Labs released Geekbench 7 on July 23, introducing revised CPU and GPU benchmark tests meant to better reflect current device use across everyday computing, gaming, media work and AI-related tasks. The update follows Geekbench 6, which arrived in early 2023, and reflects the growing role of on-device machine learning, image processing, video editing and demanding games in consumer hardware performance.

According to the report, Geekbench 7 substantially updates the GPU Benchmark with more emphasis on machine learning and content creation. New or revised GPU workloads model tasks such as face tracking and real-time filters in video, AI image upscaling, background blur for video calls, RAW image processing, LUT-based color grading, path tracing and fluid simulation. The release also adds Nvidia CUDA support alongside OpenCL, Vulkan and Metal.

The CPU side has also changed, particularly in how the benchmark handles multi-core testing. 9to5Mac said Primate Labs now uses multiple threads only for workloads that typically behave that way in real-world use; for example, the HTML5 Browser test has been removed from the multi-core suite because browser activity is usually single-threaded or lightly threaded. New media workloads measure AV1 screen-sharing video encoding, Opus audio compression and live-caption-style processing using the Whisper speech recognition model.

The report also notes larger and more varied test data sets, including broader file compression archives, more diverse PDF samples and updated developer and image-processing assets. Geekbench remains a widely used cross-platform benchmarking tool, so changes to its tests can affect how reviewers, developers and device buyers compare performance.
