What the report says

BBC Sport reports that Aston Villa have signed Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho on loan through the end of the 2026-27 season, with the deal set to turn into a permanent move next summer if specified conditions are satisfied. Chelsea said the Argentina international has already agreed a four-year contract at Villa Park, though neither club has disclosed the exact terms of the purchase obligation.

According to the BBC, the clause is expected to depend on conditions such as Garnacho’s appearances next season, and Chelsea believe the requirements are likely to be met. The report says the west London club expect to secure their original £43 million valuation. Manchester United, who sold Garnacho to Chelsea last September for £40 million, would be entitled to 10% of any eventual transfer fee.

The move follows Chelsea’s club-record £117 million signing of Morgan Rogers from Villa earlier in the week. Villa head coach Unai Emery welcomed Garnacho’s arrival, describing him as a young, talented player who wanted to contribute to the club’s project. Garnacho becomes Villa’s fourth signing of the window after Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes and Modou Keba Cisse, while Villa have also made major sales, including Youri Tielemans, Donyell Malen, Enzo Barrenechea and Lewis Dobbin.

BBC analysis notes that Garnacho arrives with clear potential but still needing greater consistency. He scored one Premier League goal and made four assists for Chelsea last season, with eight goals in 43 games in all competitions. For Villa, the deal adds pace to Emery’s squad while allowing the club some financial flexibility under Premier League and Uefa spending rules.
