9to5Google reports that Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 appears to be drawing stronger pre-order demand than the company expected, despite Samsung reportedly preparing a larger initial supply for the standard Fold 8 than for the more expensive Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The article, published July 28, cites leaks and social media posts indicating that allocation for the smaller foldable is tightening in some markets.

According to the report, Samsung was said earlier in July to have planned about 2.8 million Galaxy Z Fold 8 units, compared with 2 million units for the Fold 8 Ultra. Even so, 9to5Google says the standard model is reportedly selling ahead of internal forecasts. A Naver post from Lanzuk is cited for the claim that sales are above expectations, while a post from Ice Universe on X is cited as saying some regions, including South Korea, could face stock shortages.

The article notes early signs of limited availability on Samsung’s own site. A web-exclusive “Pistachio” color that had briefly appeared blocked at checkout was later available again, but with delivery delayed until October. Carrier availability may also be under pressure, with the report saying some colors may not last through the pre-order window, which ends August 7.

The Fold 8 Ultra is not described as facing the same supply concerns, with the cited report characterizing its supply as adequate. If the reports are accurate, the response may indicate consumer interest in the Fold 8’s wider shape and more compact profile, a shift from Samsung’s traditionally taller foldable design.
