Galaxy S25 Ultra and S24 Ultra owners report severe battery drain and overheating issues after July update - Notebookcheck

What the report says
Notebookcheck reports that some Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy S24 Ultra owners are complaining of sharp battery drain, overheating and slower charging after installing Samsung’s July security patch. The article, published July 29, cites posts on Samsung’s Community forum from users who say the problems began shortly after the update was applied.
According to Notebookcheck, one Galaxy S25 Ultra owner said their device had normal battery life before the patch, but later fell from about 85% overnight to nearly 5% by midday with roughly two hours of screen-on time. That user also reported unusually high idle drain of about 5% to 7% per hour. A Galaxy S24 Ultra owner separately described a similar decline, saying the phone had previously lasted a full day on one charge but no longer did so after the July update.
The report says other forum participants echoed the battery complaints and added that their phones were running hotter than usual. Some also said charging had become slower and that common troubleshooting steps had not resolved the issue. Notebookcheck notes that Samsung had not issued an official acknowledgment or confirmed a fix at the time of publication.
The complaints matter because the Galaxy S Ultra line represents Samsung’s highest-end mainstream smartphones, where battery life, thermal performance and charging reliability are key user expectations. Based on the evidence cited, the issue appears to affect some users rather than all owners, and the available information comes from community reports rather than a confirmed technical finding from Samsung.
