From politics to production: OWC’s Kirabira urges NUP, NRM supporters to unite against poverty

What the report says
Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) Civil Coordinator for Greater Kampala Metropolitan, Edison Kirabira, has urged supporters of Uganda’s National Unity Platform (NUP) and National Resistance Movement (NRM) to set aside political rivalry and work together on production, enterprise and income-generating activities. Watchdog Uganda reported that he delivered the message on Monday at OWC branch offices in Munyonyo, near Speke Resort in Kampala.
Kirabira said politics should not crowd out the economic concerns facing households, especially young people. He encouraged people to focus on commercial farming, entrepreneurship, skills development and other practical work that can improve incomes. He also stressed that political disagreement does not have to block economic cooperation, arguing that people from different parties can trade, farm and build businesses together.
According to the report, Kirabira framed his remarks within OWC’s wider wealth-creation mission, which promotes productive activity and household-level development. He said government programmes should be judged by whether they create jobs, skills, markets and sustainable livelihoods, rather than only by political interpretation. He also pointed to social media as a possible tool for marketing products, finding customers and promoting legitimate opportunities.
The comments come amid Uganda’s long-running political competition, where party divisions often shape public debate. Kirabira’s appeal seeks to shift attention toward practical cooperation on poverty reduction, especially among youth and small business owners in the Greater Kampala area.
