French firms eye more than $4 billion investment in Uganda

French companies could channel more than $4 billion into Uganda by the end of 2027, according to reporting by Nile Post, as the East African country courts investment in green energy, agro-processing, waste management and digital services. The remarks were made at the launch of French Week Uganda 2026 in Kampala, an event organised by the French Chamber of Commerce Uganda.

Uganda Investment Authority Director General Robert Mukiza said the government wants capital that supports value addition, job creation and longer-term growth. He pointed to opportunities in coffee processing, including roasting, packaging, cold-chain systems and traceability, as well as in renewable power, water and sanitation, and financial services. Mukiza also said foreign investors can fully own their businesses in Uganda and use the UIA One Stop Centre for licensing, permits, tax registration and land information.

French Ambassador to Uganda Virginie Leroy said this year’s French Week will focus on decarbonisation, the green economy and digital agriculture. She said climate-smart investment could reduce costs and create jobs, while digital tools may help farmers access market data and services. She also said French institutions, including the embassy, the treasury, AFD, Proparco and the FCCU, are working with Ugandan partners on planning, green financing and access to credit.

The report said the broader push matters because Uganda is seeking more private capital for climate-resilient growth and industrial upgrading. It also noted current partnerships in clean energy and electric mobility, including projects involving Rubis Energy Uganda and other local firms.
