Notebookcheck’s review of the Framework Laptop 13 Pro describes the new 13.5-inch model as a major update to Framework’s long-running repair-focused ultraportable line. The publication says the machine, unveiled in April and now shipping, keeps the company’s emphasis on serviceability, customization, swappable ports and motherboard upgrades while addressing a key weakness of the earlier Laptop 13.5: a chassis that felt less rigid than mainstream premium competitors.

According to the review, the Laptop 13 Pro uses a stronger 6063 aluminum structure that makes the system feel substantially sturdier without increasing thickness, though it is slightly heavier. Notebookcheck tested a mid-tier Intel configuration with a Core Ultra X7 358H, 32GB of memory, 1TB storage and a 2880 x 1920 IPS 120Hz touchscreen, priced at about $3,000. Framework says pricing starts at $1,200 for a barebones model and can exceed $3,000 depending on configuration and accessories. Current versions use the same 3:2 touchscreen, with Intel Panther Lake or AMD Ryzen AI 300 processor options depending on SKU.

The review highlights long battery life, a bright IPS touch display, a comfortable keyboard and continued best-in-class repairability as major strengths. Notebookcheck also notes the system competes with premium clamshell laptops such as Dell’s XPS 13, Lenovo’s ThinkPad and Yoga Pro lines, Microsoft’s Surface Laptop and Asus ExpertBook models.

The main criticism is thermal performance. Notebookcheck found the CPU could exceed 90 degrees Celsius under load, higher than a Dell XPS 13 using the same processor, limiting Turbo Boost and leaving raw performance below expectations. Other drawbacks cited include no OLED or HDR option, limited P3 color coverage, modest speakers and a plastic display bezel that may feel less premium.
