Phoronix’s Michael Larabel reviewed the Framework Laptop 13 Pro, a redesigned version of Framework Computer’s modular 13-inch notebook, after receiving a review sample ahead of the embargo lifting on July 27, 2026. The article says the model, announced in April, introduces a 74Wh battery, LPCAMM2 memory, a full CNC aluminum chassis, a haptic touchpad and a power-optimized touch display, paired with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 “Panther Lake” processors.

According to Phoronix, the redesign substantially improves the feel and build quality while preserving the familiar Framework approach to repairability and upgrades. The chassis uses 6063 aluminum, keeps the same outside dimensions as prior Framework Laptop 13 models and weighs 1.4 kilograms. Framework is also maintaining cross-generation component compatibility, meaning owners of earlier units can use new parts such as the Panther Lake mainboard and display kit without necessarily buying the new chassis.

The review focuses heavily on Linux compatibility. Phoronix reported that Ubuntu 26.04 LTS worked well out of the box on the review unit with the Linux 7.0 kernel, including the Panther Lake chip, Arc B390 integrated graphics, display, haptic touchpad and other components. The article also notes continuing LVFS/Fwupd support for firmware updates and says modern distributions such as Fedora Workstation, Arch Linux and Ubuntu should be well positioned for use with the device.

The main issue Phoronix described was an unusual USB-C power behavior with a third-party 150W charger, which appeared to cap the processor at very low power until the official Framework charger was used.
