Fox News reported that its latest national poll found broad voter dissatisfaction with the economy, national politics and both major parties ahead of the November midterm elections. The survey put President Donald Trump’s job approval at 39%, unchanged for a third straight month and close to his previous low in Fox polling. Democrats led Republicans on the generic House ballot, 53% to 46%, a seven-point margin Fox said is the largest advantage for either party in that measure since it began polling the question in 1996.

The poll found Democrats ahead on several issue areas, including income inequality, health care, inflation, the economy and foreign policy. Republicans retained an advantage on crime, while voters were closely divided on government spending and national security. Fox also reported a shift on immigration: Republicans had led by eight points in April, but Democrats were narrowly preferred in the new survey. Democratic voters were more likely than Republicans to say they were extremely motivated to vote, 68% to 57%.

Economic pessimism was a major theme. Three-quarters of voters rated the economy negatively, and a similar share said inflation had caused financial hardship. A majority expected the economy to worsen over the next year, with optimism concentrated among Republicans. The survey also found deep frustration with political institutions: many voters said the system favors the wealthy, both parties are linked to elites, and new officeholders are preferable to experienced ones.

Fox said the poll was conducted July 17-20, 2026, by Beacon Research and Shaw & Company Research among 1,003 registered voters, with a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points. The findings matter because generic ballot leads can signal the national mood, though district boundaries and where support is concentrated affect whether votes translate into House seats.
