Four women accuse Jared Leto of criminal sexual conduct

BBC News reports that four women have accused actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto of criminal sexual conduct in a new BBC documentary, with alleged incidents involving them as teenagers. The broadcaster says 10 women in total described mistreatment or troubling encounters with Leto between 2002 and 2016, when he was in his 30s and 40s. Nine are speaking publicly for the first time.

According to the BBC, one woman alleges she was sexually assaulted in a Las Vegas motel bathroom in 2002 when she was 17. Another says Leto threatened her with sexual assault in a London hotel room in 2013, when she was 19. A third says she had under-age sex with him in California at 17, and a fourth alleges Leto groomed her through sexually explicit calls when she was 16; the BBC says it saw an NDA she was later sent but did not sign.

The BBC also reports that additional women described sexualized phone calls or backstage interactions when they were young, and that two former band staff members said colleagues were uncomfortable with Leto’s interactions with teenage girls. The broadcaster says it corroborated some accounts with contemporaneous friends or family and, in some cases, pictures or messages.

Leto, 54, has not responded to allegations put to him by the BBC, according to the report. The BBC notes he denied allegations published last year by Air Mail. Leto is an Oscar-winning actor and the lead singer of Thirty Seconds to Mars, which is scheduled to tour Europe and the UK next spring.
