Four injured in suspected acid attack on family in Mityana

Four members of one family were injured in Mityana Municipality, Uganda, after an unidentified man allegedly sprayed them with a substance suspected to be acid during a nighttime attack, according to Nile Post. Police said the incident happened on August 6, 2026, around 7:45 p.m. in Kasimbi Busimbi Cell, Busimbi Division, when the attacker used a power blackout to approach the home of Luminsa Francis.

Wamala Regional Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi said the suspect, described only by the maroon jacket he was wearing, asked children in the home for their mother before entering the sitting room, where the family was gathered. The substance allegedly hit the mother and children, causing panic and injuries. The victims were identified as Prossy Nankumba, 43, Teddy Namugga, 17, Nalukenge Robina, 10, and Jeremiah Ssekaggo, 6.

Police said all four were taken to Mityana General Hospital. Investigators later recovered a container believed to have carried the substance and the jacket said to have been worn by the suspect. Samples have been sent for forensic testing to determine the exact material used. Three of the victims had reportedly been discharged but remained under medication and observation.

Police said the suspect fled immediately and has not yet been identified. The motive remains unclear as the investigation continues. Acid attacks are a serious safety concern in many countries because they can cause lasting injuries, and police in this case have appealed for public assistance with any information that could help trace the attacker.
