Former Speaker Anita Among’s X Account Rebranded to Global Africa Brief Linked to Journalist Remmy Bahati

What the report says
Watchdog Uganda reports that the X account long associated with former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has been rebranded into a pan-African news outlet called Global Africa Brief. According to the article, the account’s name, handle, bio, and website link were changed, while earlier posts linked to Among’s political activity were removed. The account still has a large following, and its new content focuses on African political, economic, and social issues.
The report says public records and posts connect the new operation to New York-based Ugandan journalist Remmy Bahati. Watchdog Uganda notes that Bahati has referred to herself as a founder building Global Africa Brief and has published material on the site, while also tagging the outlet in her social media posts. Bahati is described in the article as a former NBS Television reporter and journalism graduate who has worked with other international and diaspora-focused publications.
Among has not publicly explained whether the account was sold, transferred, or otherwise handed over, and the article says no public document confirms a commercial transaction. Watchdog Uganda also says it could not independently verify the terms of the change with the people involved. The development is significant because it appears to replace one of Among’s most visible online platforms with a media brand, raising questions about transparency, ownership, and how large political social media audiences can be repurposed.
