Former Real Madrid captain Carvajal joins Getafe

What the report says
Former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal has joined Getafe on a free transfer after leaving the Bernabeu club when his contract expired in June, BBC Sport Football reported. The 34-year-old right-back, who was born in Madrid, signed a deal with Getafe through June next year.
BBC Sport said Carvajal spent 23 years at Real Madrid after joining the academy in 2002, becoming one of the club’s most decorated players with 27 trophies, including six Champions League titles. He also made 51 appearances for Spain and was part of the squad that won the Nations League in 2023 and Euro 2024.
The move gives Getafe an experienced defender as they sit 11th in La Liga and continue their season in the south of the Spanish capital. BBC Sport also noted that injuries have affected Carvajal’s recent years, including a cruciate ligament tear in October 2024 and another serious knee problem a year later, which limited his appearances at Real Madrid.
Getafe said they welcomed his experience and leadership, underlining the club’s interest in adding a veteran player with a long record at the highest level. In general, such moves can provide both depth and dressing-room presence, especially for mid-table teams looking to stabilize their squad.
