Former Kisoro Chairperson Urges Protests Over Poor Tourism Roads

What the report says
Former Kisoro District Chairperson Abel Bizimana is calling on tourism operators and residents in Kisoro to organise peaceful protests over worsening road conditions that he says are harming access to major tourism sites. According to Nile Post, his appeal follows the collapse of the Kisoro–Bukimbiri road at River Mucha Bridge, which has raised concern about transport links serving the district’s tourism economy.
Bizimana said tourism associations, unions and other organised groups should work together to push for urgent government action on the road network. He argued that individual complaints would not be enough and said coordinated advocacy, including press conferences and peaceful demonstrations, could draw attention to the problem. He also said he had spoken with Bukimbiri County MP Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu, who in turn reportedly contacted Works Minister Fred Byamukama.
The report says concern is especially high around the Karengyere–Nyanamo–Rubuguri–Rushaga–Nkuringo road, which has taken on added importance since the River Mucha Bridge collapse. In addition, Kisoro District Youth Councillor Juliet Kamusiime raised separate concerns about the Nyanamo–Rubuguri road, saying it has had potholes for years and accusing the Uganda National Roads Authority of inaction. The issue matters because Kisoro is a gateway to key tourism destinations, including areas linked to gorilla trekking, and poor access can affect visitors, local businesses and nearby communities.
