What the report says

ABC News, citing The Associated Press, reports that Ford Motor Co. is recalling 565,691 Bronco and Bronco Raptor vehicles in the United States because of a potential engine-compartment fire risk. The recall covers model years 2021 through 2026, according to the report, and was announced by Ford on Thursday.

The issue involves a wiring harness in the engine area that may not have enough protective covering. Ford said exposed wiring can cause a short circuit, raising the possibility of a fire. The company estimates that about 1% of the recalled vehicles have the defect and said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries linked to the problem.

According to the report, drivers experiencing the defect may see a dashboard warning or notice smoke coming through the air vents before flames appear from the passenger side of the engine compartment. Ford dealers will address the issue by installing new covers over the wiring at no cost to owners.

Ford’s recall number is 26S55, while the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration lists the campaign as 26V468. Vehicle identification numbers covered by the recall are searchable on NHTSA.gov. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information. The recall matters because the Bronco is a high-profile Ford model, and fire-risk recalls can require prompt owner attention even when the expected defect rate is low.
