Football Daily

What the report says

BBC Sport’s Football Daily episode focuses on a discussion about Roberto De Zerbi’s growing influence at Tottenham Hotspur. Presenters Rick Edwards and Lloyd Griffith are joined by journalist Julien Laurens, who argues that De Zerbi is gradually shaping Spurs in his own image and now holds significant authority after a busy summer. The conversation also asks how far the club’s improvement can go and whether Tottenham could, in broad terms, end up following a similar arc to last season’s Manchester United. The episode is part of BBC Radio 5 Live’s football coverage and was published on 29 October 2026.

The programme also branches into other football topics. Rick Edwards looks at which Premier League player has scored the most so-called “luxury” goals this season, while Lloyd Griffith previews a trip to Buenos Aires for Boca Juniors against River Plate, the famous Superclásico. South American football writer Tim Vickery provides context on the rivalry and what visiting the match can be like.

As with other Football Daily editions, the episode mixes analysis, light features and listener interaction rather than breaking-news reporting. The Spurs segment is the main editorial thread, offering context on De Zerbi’s tactics, squad issues and longer-term future, while the Superclásico section adds international football colour and background.
