Foden signs new four-year Man City contract

BBC Sport reports that Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has agreed a new four-year contract, extending his commitment to the club until 2030. The 26-year-old had been entering the final year of his previous deal, which was set to run out next summer, but has chosen to remain at City under new head coach Enzo Maresca.

Foden, an academy graduate, was handed his senior debut at 17 by Pep Guardiola and has since made 369 appearances for Manchester City. According to the BBC, his honours with the club include six Premier League titles, one Champions League and two FA Cups, placing him among City’s most decorated players alongside John Stones and Bernardo Silva.

The new deal comes after a less consistent period for Foden. The BBC notes he was omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad in May following a season in which he started 23 Premier League matches. Last season he recorded seven goals and five assists in 33 league games, while his role at City has at times shifted deeper as other attacking options have been used around Erling Haaland.

Foden said committing his future to City was highly significant to him and expressed enthusiasm about working again with Maresca, who was part of Guardiola’s staff during the club’s 2022-23 Treble season. The extension gives City continuity with a long-serving homegrown player as the club moves into its post-Guardiola era.
