What the report says

Heavy rains have flooded parts of the Busunju–Mityana Road in Ssekanyonyi Town Council, Mityana District, interrupting transport and making it harder for motorists, pedestrians and traders to move between Ssekanyonyi and Mityana. According to Nile Post, the waterlogged sections have come from overflowing rivers and streams after Tuesday’s downpour.

The disruption is especially significant for farmers and traders who use the route to carry agricultural produce to market in Mityana town and other nearby trading centers. Residents said the poor state of the road, combined with flooding, increases the risk of delays and losses when goods cannot reach buyers on time. The situation has also affected access to essential services for people living along the corridor.

Local resident Membe John said the road has long been included in government budget discussions but still lacks durable rehabilitation. His comments reflected broader frustration among users who want a lasting fix rather than temporary repairs during emergencies.

Mityana District LC5 chairperson Joseph Luzige said the road is under the Ministry of Works and Transport, while the district is looking at what it can do locally to help keep access open. The reporting highlights a recurring infrastructure challenge in the area and underscores how flood-related road damage can disrupt livelihoods, transport and market supply chains during heavy rains.
