Fleetwood to face Everton or Newcastle in last eight

What the report says
League Two side Fleetwood Town will host either Everton or Newcastle United in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup, after the draw for the last eight was set following the fourth-round ties. The BBC Sport Football report says Fleetwood are the lowest-ranked team left in the competition and have already made club history by reaching this stage for the first time.
Fleetwood earned their place by upsetting Premier League champions Arsenal on penalties on Tuesday. Their next opponent will be decided when Everton host Newcastle in the final remaining fourth-round match on Thursday at Hill Dickinson Stadium. The quarter-final tie will be played at Highbury in the week commencing 14 December.
The rest of the draw features two Premier League-vs-Premier League ties and one other lower-league survivor. Holders Manchester City will meet League One Bradford City after needing penalties to get past Brighton, Liverpool will host Bournemouth after also advancing on spot-kicks against Chelsea, and Crystal Palace will face Sunderland at Selhurst Park.
The draw highlights the cup’s unusual mix of top-flight and lower-league teams, with Fleetwood’s progress standing out as the competition’s main upset so far. More broadly, it gives the League Two club a major home tie against established Premier League opposition and a chance to continue an already notable run.
