The article says Mamdani’s rise after winning the Democratic primary and mayoralty has made him a national figure and intensified debate inside the Democratic Party over the influence of its left wing.

The report highlights several interview exchanges. In a mid-July New York Times interview with Lulu Garcia-Navarro, Mamdani was pressed to define “working class” and was challenged on whether high earners could fit that label. Fox News said he resisted setting a precise boundary before referring to people working to afford basic needs and later discussing income levels in a way he said was being misread.

Fox News also cited a podcast appearance in which Mamdani sidestepped a hypothetical question about running for president, noting he was born in Uganda and saying his focus was New York City. On foreign policy, the article said he condemned repression by Iran’s government but did not directly answer whether Iran was better off without Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, while warning against U.S. involvement in regime-change wars.

The piece further pointed to Mamdani’s response to a House resolution condemning socialism, his past handling of questions about the phrase “Globalize the intifada,” and his later comment that he would discourage use of that language after speaking with a rabbi. Fox News said it contacted Mamdani’s office and did not immediately receive a response.
